Forgive Us As We Forgive — A Morning Prayer

Merciful Father, forgive me my sins,
as I forgive those who sin against me.

I mean the first half with all my heart.
I need Your mercy every single day.
You have forgiven me more than I could ever repay.

The second half is harder.
There is someone I'm still holding something against.
The hurt comes back whenever I think of them.

I can't make myself forgive just by deciding to.
But I can open my hands a little.
I'm willing to be made willing.
Begin that work in me today.

Forgiving doesn't mean pretending it didn't happen,
or trusting them again right away.
It means handing the debt over to You,
so it stops holding me.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this when you are holding a grudge you cannot seem to put down. You do not have to feel ready to forgive. Pray it as honestly as you can, and come back to it again tomorrow.

A Verse to Hold On To

"Bear with one another and forgive any complaint you may have against someone else. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." — Colossians 3:13 (BSB)
