Blessed Are the Pure in Heart — A Morning Prayer

Holy God, my heart is a crowded place.
Love for You is in there,
but so are pride, and worry, and wanting to be liked,
all mixed together, pulling different ways.

Make my heart pure this morning.
Not perfect, but whole,
pointed one way, toward You.

Wash it like a window,
so Your light comes through clearly
and I can see You.

You say the pure in heart will see God.
Let me see You today:
in the face of a friend,
in a kindness I didn't expect,
in the plain, good gifts of an ordinary day.

And keep my eyes and thoughts clean,
so nothing clouds the glass again.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this at the start of the day, while the house is still quiet and before the day's noise crowds in. It is also a good prayer for a morning when your thoughts feel scattered and pulled in many directions.

A Verse to Hold On To

"Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." — Matthew 5:8 (KJV)
