Blessed Are the Poor in Spirit — A Morning Prayer
I come to You this morning with empty hands, Lord.
I have nothing to impress You with.
No good deeds stored up, no strength saved,
only my need of You.And You call that a blessed place to be.
The kingdom of heaven isn't for people
who have it all together.
It's for those who know they don't,
and come to You anyway. So I won't pretend today.
I need You to forgive me.
I need You to teach me.
I need You to carry what I can't.
I need You for my next breath.Thank You that my need doesn't push You away.
It's the very door You come through. In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this on a morning when you feel you have nothing to offer, or when you have been trying to hold everything together on your own. Say it slowly, with your hands open in your lap.
A Verse to Hold On To
"Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." — Matthew 5:3 (KJV)
