Blessed Are the Merciful — A Morning Prayer

God of mercy, I have lived on Your mercy
since the day I was born.
Teach me to give away what I've been given.

Show me who needs mercy today.
The person who made a mistake at my expense.
The one who is struggling, and doing it badly.
The one I could easily judge
if I didn't know their whole story.

The Samaritan didn't walk past the wounded man.
He crossed the road, knelt in the dust,
and gave his own money and time.
Let me cross the road today
for whoever is hurting in my path.

Make my heart soft and my judgments slow.
I need mercy too much to hold it back.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this over your first cup of coffee, before you meet the people of your day. It helps most when someone has let you down and you would rather judge them than help them.

A Verse to Hold On To

"Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy." — Matthew 5:7 (KJV)
