A Closing Prayer for a Funeral Service
Lord, before we leave this place, we give the one we love into Your hands one more time — with gratitude for their life, and with trust in Your goodness.
Go with each person as they leave — to the graveside, to the reception, to houses that will feel emptier tonight. Let the comfort we found together here follow us home.
The Lord bless us and keep us. The Lord make His face shine upon us, and give us peace, this day and always.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
This is the last prayer of the service — a benediction before the congregation stands. It also fits at the end of a graveside gathering or a memorial meal. Read it slowly; endings deserve unhurried words.
A Verse to Hold On To
"The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: the Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: the Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace." — Numbers 6:24–26 (KJV)
