A Holy Saturday Prayer

God, today is the quiet day.

Friday had its darkness and its thunder. Sunday will have its trumpets. But Saturday — Saturday has nothing. A sealed tomb. A locked room. Silence.

I know this day. I have lived in it. The prayer that hasn't been answered, the diagnosis without a verdict yet, the season when heaven seems to have gone quiet and all I can do is wait.

On that first Saturday, Your friends thought the story was over. They could not see what You were doing in the dark — and You were doing everything.

So teach me what they learned by Sunday morning: that Your silence is not Your absence, and a sealed tomb is no obstacle to You. Hope I cannot see is still hope.

Sit with me in the waiting, Lord. I will keep watch here until the stone moves.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this on the Saturday of Holy Week, in the strange still gap between Good Friday and Easter. It also belongs to every ordinary "Saturday" of life — the long wait between the loss and whatever God does next.

A Verse to Hold On To

"It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord." — Lamentations 3:26 (KJV)
