A Morning Prayer to Live One Day at a Time

Father, I keep running ahead of today.
My mind is already in next week,
rehearsing problems that haven't happened,
answering questions no one has asked.

Call me back to this one day.
It is the only day I've been given to live,
and You have given me grace enough for it.
Not for tomorrow. Not yet.
Tomorrow's grace will come with tomorrow.

So I set down the worries that belong to later.
I'll pick up only what is mine today:
this work, these people, this prayer.

Keep me here, Lord, in the hours You have given.
And if my thoughts wander off into the future again,
gently lead them home.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this when you wake and your mind is already racing toward next week. Pray it again at midday if the worries creep back in.

A Verse to Hold On To

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own." — Matthew 6:34 (BSB)
