A Morning Prayer Giving the Day Back to God

Here I am, Lord, with a whole day in my hands.
You gave it to me.
I want to give it back.

Not just the holy parts,
like this prayer or a quiet minute.
The ordinary parts too.
The dishes and the laundry.
The phone calls and the waiting.
The walk to the mailbox.
The work no one will notice or thank me for.

Take each of them as a small gift to You.
Let me do them gladly, in Your name,
as if I were handing them to You myself.

And whatever I can't finish today,
I give You that as well.
It was Yours before it was mine.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray this at the kitchen table before the day gets going, with the list of chores in front of you. It is especially good for a day made up of small jobs.
