A Sunday Morning Prayer of Advent Peace

Prince of Peace, this Sunday morning
I bring You a restless world.

The angels spoke of peace on earth,
and the earth is still not at peace.
Nations are at war.
Neighbors don't speak to each other.
Families sit down to dinner already braced for a fight.

And I bring You my own restless heart —
the worries that woke me early,
the hurry already tugging at my sleeve.

Your peace is not the world's kind.
It does not wait for every problem to be solved.
You came as a baby into an occupied land,
under a cruel king, in a crowded town.

So give me that peace today.
Settle my heart before the day begins.
Let me carry calm into my home,
gentleness into my words,
and quiet kindness into every room I enter.

In Your name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this on a Sunday morning in Advent, especially the second Sunday, when many churches light the candle of peace. It suits the quiet minutes before you leave for church, before the Christmas rush takes over.

A Verse to Hold On To

"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid." — John 14:27 (BSB)
