A Sunday Morning Prayer of Advent Joy
Rejoice, my soul — the Lord is near.
Father, I don't always feel joyful.
Some Sundays I come to You
with more questions than songs.
But joy is not the same as happiness.
Joy is knowing You are near
even when life is hard.Mary knew it, singing her song in Elizabeth's house.
The shepherds knew it, hurrying in from the fields.
Simeon knew it, holding a baby in his old arms.
None of them had easy lives.
All of them had You.So give me joy this morning —
the deep kind that sits underneath everything else.
Let it show in my face,
in my singing if I sing,
and in the way I treat the people I see today. And remind me that joy goes both ways.
Your word says You rejoice over me with singing. In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this on a Sunday morning in Advent, especially the third Sunday, when many churches light the candle of joy. It can be a comfort if the season feels hard this year and you do not feel very joyful.
A Verse to Hold On To
"The LORD your God is among you; He is mighty to save. He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you with His love; He will rejoice over you with singing." — Zephaniah 3:17 (BSB)
