A Prayer for the Annunciation

Lord God, on an ordinary day in Nazareth
You sent Your angel to a young woman
with news too big to hold.

She was troubled, and she asked how.
You did not scold her for asking.
You told her that nothing is impossible with You.

And she said yes.
Here I am, the servant of the Lord.
Let it be as You have said.

Nine months before Christmas,
You were already on Your way to us,
small and hidden and near.

Give me a heart that listens like hers,
honest with my questions
and ready with my yes.
Whatever You ask of me today,
let me trust that You keep Your word.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this on March 25, the Feast of the Annunciation, nine months before Christmas. It fits any day God asks something of you that you don't yet understand.
