Psalm 100 — A Psalm of Thanksgiving

Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.

Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

About This Prayer

Psalm 100 carries its own ancient title — "A Psalm of praise" — and for thousands of years it has been the doorway psalm, sung as worshippers entered the temple gates. It is thanksgiving at its simplest: God made us, God keeps us, God is good, and His mercy does not run out. Whole congregations have sung it as the hymn "All People That on Earth Do Dwell," and it remains one of the easiest psalms to learn by heart.

When to Pray This

Pray Psalm 100 when you have something to thank God for, or when you want to and can't quite feel it yet — gratitude often follows the words. It is a natural prayer before a meal, at Thanksgiving, on the way to church, or at the start of any morning that needs a better beginning.
