A Prayer After the Loss of a Friend
Father of all comfort, my heart is heavy today. A good friend has died, and I feel the ache of his absence. Hold him now in Your everlasting arms.
I lift up his wife, who grieves and battles illness at the same time. Wrap her in Your tender care. Give her strength for each hour and peace that quiets her fears.
Comfort all who loved him. Turn our sorrow into cherished memory, and our tears into quiet hope. Remind us that death does not have the final word.
Walk with us through this valley, Lord. We trust ourselves and our friend to Your mercy, in Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this when the news of a friend's death first reaches you, or whenever grief rises through the days that follow. It is also a prayer to hold up a widow or family member who is carrying loss and hardship at once.
A Verse to Hold On To
"The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit." — Psalm 34:18 (KJV)
This prayer was written for a visitor who asked for “Loss. I just learned that a good friend passed away. His wife is grieving and battling cancer.”. Ask for your own.
