Prayer of the Day

Father, the last day has come and gone. The desk is cleared, the goodbyes are said, and Monday morning belongs to me now. It feels stranger than I expected.

Thank You for the working years — all of them, the thousands of days. Thank You for the paychecks that fed a family, the colleagues who became friends, the problems solved and the things built, even the hard seasons that taught me endurance. You were faithful through every one. The work mattered, Lord. Thank You for letting me do it.

Now teach me who I am without the title. I was never really the job — I know that in my head. Help my heart catch up. I am still Your child, still Your worker, just reassigned.

So I'm reporting for the new assignment. Show me what these years are for: the grandchildren, maybe. The neighbor. The church. The slow mornings I never got to have. The wisdom I can finally give away for free. Keep me useful, keep me curious, keep me kind. And let the best work of my life turn out to be still ahead.

Lord, it's night, and my mind will not be quiet.

The worries I managed to outrun all day have caught up with me here in the dark. They always seem bigger at night. You know this about us — You made these minds, and You are not annoyed with mine.

So here they are, one by one. The thing about money. The thing about my health. The people I love and can't protect. The conversation I keep replaying. The tomorrow I keep rehearsing.

I've held them all day, and it changed nothing. You hold them tonight.

You tell me to cast my cares on You, because You care for me. I'm doing that now — not gracefully, but honestly. Some of these I'll try to pick back up at 2 a.m. Be patient with me. Take them again.

Quiet my thoughts the way You quieted the sea — not by explaining the storm, but by speaking to it. Peace. Be still.

And if sleep is slow to come, let me lie here in the dark with You — not alone, not abandoned — just tired, and safe, and loved.
