Morning
A Prayer for Guidance
Lord, I need You to lead me. The way ahead is not clear, and I have already tried figuring it out on my own. That is how I ended up here, asking.
You see the whole road. I see about three feet of it. So I will stop demanding the whole map and ask instead for the next step.
Show me that step, Lord. Open the doors You want open, and close the wrong ones so firmly that I cannot talk myself back through them.
Speak through Your Word. Speak through wise people who love You. Speak in that quiet way You have, and give me the patience to wait until You do — because my hurry has never once improved Your timing.
I would rather walk slowly with You than run fast without You. Direct my path. I trust You with the destination.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
Evening
An Evening Prayer to Close the Day
Father, the day is done, and I bring it to You — all of it.
Thank You for carrying me through it. For the mercies I noticed, and the many I didn't: the meals, the safe travel, the words that came when I needed them, the trouble that never arrived.
Where I did well today, it was Your grace. Thank You. Where I failed — and You and I both know where — forgive me. The sharp word, the shortcut, the kindness I skipped because I was busy or tired or just didn't want to. Wash it clean. Let me start tomorrow unburdened.
If I hurt anyone today, mend what I can't see, and give me the humility to make it right tomorrow. If anyone hurt me, help me set it down tonight. I don't want to carry it to bed.
Now quiet my mind, Lord. The day's leftover noise is still ringing in my ears — conversations, worries, the list of things undone. The undone things will keep. You never sleep, so I can.
Watch over my home tonight and everyone in it. Watch over the ones I love who are far away. Be near to those who have to work while the rest of us rest, and to anyone for whom tonight is long and hard.
Into Your hands I place this day, finished, and tomorrow, still unopened. I trust You with both of them. Give me rest tonight — and if You wake me in the morning, I'll thank You then too.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
